Description:
MEPS™ is Micro Extraction by Packed Sorbent and is used for sample preparation and handling. MEPS is the miniaturization of conventional SPE packed bed devices from milliliter bed volumes to microliter volumes. The MEPS approach to sample preparation is suitable for reversed phases, normal phases, mixed mode or ion exchange chemistries. MEPS is available in a variety of common SPE phases. SAMPLE SIZE AND SENSITIVITY Sample volumes may be as little as 10 μL, or by taking multiple aliquots of 100 μL or 250 μL, samples of 1 mL or larger may be concentrated. AUTOMATION Extract samples and make injections on-line using a single device, reducing sample processing times and the need for operator intervention. SORBENT LIFE BIN life is dependent on the specific matrix being analyzed. For example, C18 analysis of whole plasma samples is conservatively 25-100 samples before the BIN needs to be changed. BIN life of cleaner samples is significantly longer. CARRYOVER The small quantity of phase in the MEPS BIN is easily and effectively washed between samples to reduce the possibility of carryover. This washing process is not practical with off-line SPE devices. With automated MEPS, washing occurs while the previous sample is running. FLEXIBLE AND EASY TO USE The dimensions of the sorbent bed ensure performance remains identical to conventional SPE devices when used for extraction of similar samples. The AOC-MEPS system was developed to incorporate MEPS into a process automation workflow, combining sample preparation and analysis in a single platform. When automated by an AOC-MEPS system, the injection volume is much larger compared to the commonly used GC injection volumes of 1 - 2 μL. With AOC-MEPS, the typical injections are 50 to 200 μL of elution solvent. A large volume injection technique that removes the solvent volume from inside the injector unit while condensing the target compounds should be employed.

Gas Chromatography (GC) Syringes in Singapore
The invention of the microlitre GC syringe made a significant contribution to the development of gas chromatography in the 1940s. GC syringes, also known as gas chromatography syringes, are precision instruments used in analytical laboratories for the injection of samples into a gas chromatograph. They are specifically designed to deliver precise and accurate volumes of liquid or gaseous samples into the chromatographic system.
Prior to the introduction of GC syringes, there was no convenient and effective method of introducing small volumes of liquids into a gas chromatograph. This is especially so since in gas chromatography, the accuracy of sample injection is paramount for obtaining reliable and reproducible results. As such, many gas chromatographers had limited ways to deliver accurate and precise volumes with no dead volume or carryover between injections. With the microlitre GC syringes, however, small-volume samples can now be analysed with higher accuracy and produce reliable results. Able to provide precise volume control to ensure consistent injections, risks of compromised data quality, inaccurate analyses and wasted time and resources are mitigated.
Shimadzu supplies a wide variety of syringes for GC, suitable for both automatic and manual injections. All Shimadzu GC syringes are manufactured using top-grade glass and metal materials, ensuring precision, accuracy, inertness, and consistent outstanding performance.
Moreover, our GC syringe offerings are suitable for a diverse range of applications and industries. Whether you're working in environmental analysis, pharmaceutical research, forensics, or petrochemical analysis, our GC syringes provide the reliability and precision you need. From routine analyses to advanced research projects, our syringes deliver consistent and accurate results, supporting your day-to-day laboratory operations.
Types of Syringes for GC
Shimadzu offers a wide variety of syringes for automatic and manual injections of gas and liquid samples. Microlitre GC syringes are recommended for small-volume sample injection while a gastight syringe is suitable for both gas and liquid samples. Fixed needle syringes and removable needle syringes are also available, catering to different applications.
Shimadzu GC autosampler syringes are specifically designed to meet instrument dimensional specifications. They have an accuracy of better than ± 1 % and are designed for precise, worry-free overnight sampling.

1. Manual Syringes
For manual sample aspiration and injection in GC analysis, our Manual Syringes excel in providing precise and accurate results. If a syringe is installed in an AOC autosampler, then choose the appropriate GC autosampler syringe and volume to suit your instrument and application.
The chemically inert materials of our GC syringe plunger, such as metal and Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), ensure excellent resistance to corrosive solvents and minimal sample carryover for standard applications and gas and viscous samples.
With a range of volume capacities and needle lengths, our Manual Syringes offer versatility to meet your specific application requirements, guaranteeing unparalleled accuracy in sample volumes and reliable performance.
2. GC Autosampler Syringes
Shimadzu offers a range of suitable and good-quality GC autosampler syringes for all Shimadzu GC autosampler models.
If using with an autosampler, it is recommended to choose a fixed needle syringe style, to reduce the probability of the needle bending. We also offer GC Autosampler Syringes equipped with a specially developed cone-shaped needle tip designed to meet the demands of multi-injection processes while enhancing the lifespan of the septum. Unlike bevel needles that cut through the septum during piercing, the unique cone design of our syringe needles effectively "parts" the septum. This innovative approach minimises septum damage and improves its longevity. By reducing the potential for septum degradation, our GC Autosampler Syringes ensure consistent and reliable sample injections.
GC autosamplers syringes supplied by Shimadzu ensure precision, accuracy, inertness, and consistently outstanding performance in every analysis.
3. Gastight Syringes
Gastight syringes are recommended for manual GC and LC sample injections. The PTFE-tipped plunger tip allows perfect sealing of the sample, ensuring that the internal syringe barrel is free of sample during sample injection. This gastight design prevents any contamination or loss of sample, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
Our versatile gastight syringes are suitable for both gases and liquids, offering flexibility in various applications. These syringes excel in delivering high accuracy when dispensing volumes, ensuring precise and reliable results. The exceptional design of our syringes allows for interchangeable barrels, plungers, and tips, extending their performance and enhancing cost-effectiveness. This feature enables customisation and adaptability to specific laboratory needs, reducing the need for purchasing multiple syringes.

Frequently Asked Questions About Syringes for GC in Singapore
1. Which type of syringe should I use for Gas Chromatography?
Syringes are used for the injection of samples into the GC for analysis. The choice of syringe for GC depends on the injection method, the volume of the sample and the type of samples being used. Some of them include GC autosampler syringes and gastight syringes. For more information on the type of GC syringe to get, leverage Shimadzu’s Syringe Selection Assist for guidance.
2. What is the volume of the GC syringe I should use?
Syringes for GC are available in various volumes, ranging from 1µL to 100mL. The choice of syringe volume depends on the volume of sample required for your analysis. It is recommended that the injection volume of the sample be at least 10% of the GC syringe’s maximum volume to ensure reproducibility between injections.
